Synchronized Swimming, Exercise Worth Waxing For

Swimming is one of the best kinds of exercise because it essentially works every muscle in your body.  So if you need to lose weight for the summer season, why not get a bikini wax and dive into some fun swimming routines?  Whether you opt for synchronized swimming or your own program of exercise, you’ll be on a clear path to better fitness.

According to experts, when you are involved with synchro swimming, there isn’t a part of your body that’s not used.  To memorize routines, you use your brains.  You exercise your lungs because holding your breath is necessary.  You work your wrists and arms as a way to keep afloat.  And your legs are constantly working, too, and require much strength and flexibility.

There are two basics that must be mastered when a person pursues synchronized swimming:  the eggbeater kick and sculling.  Each of them provides quite a workout for your body.

The eggbeater kick is when you have your legs split and knees bent in front of you, with both lower legs moving in circles.  This move is used in water polo as well as synchro swimming.  The eggbeater keeps you high in the water and allows you to freely use your arms.

Sculling is a move that propels you through the water.  You wave the arms and hands beside the body.  Perhaps a better description is that you do a figure-eight motions on the side of your body, like you’re washing a window.  While it may look easy, it’s quite a workout.

For synchro swimming, you also incorporate the backstroke and freestyle moves as well as backflips and legs raised in the air.

Does synchronized swimming seem like an exercise you might enjoy?  Go for it!  Get waxed so that you’re comfortable with your body as you dive in for better fitness.

What are the Pros and Cons of Threading for Hair Removal?

Threading and waxing both remove the entire hair follicle and are hair removal methods that can last up to six weeks.  But that’s about where the similarities end.  With threading, a cotton thread is pulled in a twisting motion along unwanted hair in order to trap hair in a tiny lasso; and it lifts the hair completely out of the follicle.  It’s most important to note that threading is only appropriate for the face whereas waxing can be done to virtually every part of the body.

Pros

  • When done correctly, nothing will touch the skin during threading except the thread, which is thrown away after use; so the procedure is highly sanitary.
  • People who have trouble getting their brows properly shaped often find that the concise hair removal achieved with threading is the only method that can get their brows right, whereas waxing, sugaring, and tweezing fail.
  • Threading involves no chemicals on the skin.  There are some instances where alternate hair removal methods waxing and sugaring conflict with medicines a person is taking.
  • Threading is a much quicker method than other types of hair removal; for instance, threading eyebrows can take as little as 2 minutes.
  • Finally, threading can eventually produce permanent results.  Since the hair follicles tend to become damaged by threading, the hair stops growing.  (This is actually true of waxing, as well.)

Cons

  • If the person performing the threading isn’t experienced at the procedure, the hair can be broken instead of being removed at the hair follicle.  This means that re-growth occurs much more quickly.
  • It can be challenging to find a person who is experienced at threading.  It’s an art that’s passed down through generations and isn’t typically taught in just a few classes.  Threading is usually only available in very large cities.
  • For threading to work, the hair to be removed must be at least 1/16th of an inch.
  • Threading, as mentioned above, is limited to the face.
  • Threading hurts and is comparable to tweezing, where you feel every hair that’s being removed.  Different people experience different pain levels, however.  Applying numbing spray can help to offset the discomfort of the procedure.
  • A 15% to 20% tip is highly recommended, which means that the procedure can be costly.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by Eating Green and Getting Waxed – Part 1

Here’s an idea for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day all year around.  Replace your worst junk foods with lots of green vegetables.  Make it a habit to eat green vegies along with other healthy choices every day.  Add some weight resistance exercise, and you’ll sculpt your body into one that you’ll want to show off at the beach.  Of course, a bikini wax isn’t as much of a necessity if you’re hiding at home because you’re not in shape for the swimming pool.

What can green foods do for you?

  • Help fight disease
  • Supply needed vitamins and minterals such as calcium, vitamin C, beta-carotene, and folate
  • Support a healthy digestive system, since green foods are high in fiber

Here’s some information about healthy green foods, to get your mouth watering for good nutrition:

Kiwi is good to eat simply peeled, though the skin is also edible and is packed with fiber.  Some more about kiwi:

  • It protects our cells’ DNA
  • Assists with eye health
  • Supports a healthy heart

Kiwi added to smoothies, salads, cold soups, oatmeal, desserts, and dips adds a yummy tropical flavor

Broccoli is an excellent food choice and gives you a boost of calcium, folate, iron, fiber, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin K, and vitamin C.  Add broccoli to stir fry dishes, blend it into soups, eat it raw with dip or without, and roast it in the oven.

Kale is in part of the cruciferous vegetable family along with cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and bok choy.  Kale can be found near the mustard greens in most supermarkets.  It’s simple to cook kale.  Rinse thoroughly, tear into bite-sized portions and layer on a baking sheet.  Drizzle a bit of olive oil on, add a bit of salt, pepper, and any other favorite herbs and spices.  Bake for 10-14 minutes at 375°F.  Delicious.  What will your body get out of eating kale?

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin K
  • Vitamin C
  • Calcium
  • Fiber
  • B vitamins
  • Magnesium
  • Omega-3 fatty acids

Remove Unwanted Hair and Prepare Your Skin for Spring Break

Are you going to spend time at the beach or poolside during spring break?  After a season of being all bundled up, make sure your skin is ready to be on display.  Of course, one way to ensure that the beauty of your skin shines through is to remove unwanted hair, whether it’s on your upper lip, chin, cheeks, or bikini line.

Your skin needs to be moisturized year-round but especially during winter months when the air is dry.  So if you haven’t been taking care of your skin throughout wintertime, your skin may need some extra care before you step out at the beach.  And while the cold months expose your skin to dry air, warm months include the potential harm of the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Always wear sunscreen, no matter the season, such as on the face and hands.  But in summertime it’s especially important to wear protection from the sun because the rays are more harmful in the warmer months.  When you’re around water, such as a beach, pool, or lake, you’re more apt to suffer from sunburn because of damaging rays that reflect off of the water.

Skin cancer can happen on any part of your skin.  So be sure to slather the sunscreen on the toes, tops of the feet, ears, and back of your neck, if you have short hair.

Another important way to prepare for your skin for spring break is to exfoliate.  This removes the layers of dead skin cells and reveals your glowing, healthy skin.  And for those who use a self-tanner to prepare for the beach, it will go on more smoothly and be less likely to streak or fade prematurely if you exfoliate first.

Finally, you want to be sure that you wear lip balm because it’s a part of the skin that’s especially vulnerable to harmful rays of the sun.  Licking your lips is a big no-no because the saliva dries out your lips worse than if you didn’t wet them with your tongue.  Apply lip balm with SPF protection regularly to sport soft, supple lips during the fun of your spring break.

A Bikini Wax and Other Ways to Relax on Spring Break

Do you have plans to bask in the sunshine during spring break?  If you’ll be wearing a swimming suit, you should definitely plan to get a bikini wax before you head out to your exciting destination.  By getting a bikini wax, you’re going to be free to enjoy an active getaway with friends and family.  Play volleyball on the beach in your swimsuit or simply spread out on a beach towel, with no need to feel self-conscious.

What are your favorite ways to relax on spring break?  Here are a few ideas that you can pack for your trip:

  1. Buy and read The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.  These books aimed at young adults have been wildly popular.  Stephen King called The Hunger Games, the first book in the trilogy, addictive.  The second book, Catching Fire, debuted as #1 on the USA Today best seller list and also topped the New York Times list and others.  Mockingjay, the final installment, has been touted as the best in the series.  While you’re laying out in the sun, you can enjoy devouring these irresistible thrillers.
  2. Bring your Frisbee along and make new friends tossing it at the beach.
  3. Pack some of the amazing nail polish that’s trending in spring 2012.  In the morning while you’re watching the sun climb, sit out on the deck and paint your fingernails and toenails fuchsia, purple, or with one of the nail polishes in The Hunger Games nail polish collection by China Glaze.  Cool books, right?  I mean, they inspired a nail polish collection

What’s your favorite way to relax and enjoy spring break?

Does a Brazilian Wax Heighten Your Sex Appeal?

Getting a Brazilian wax is a common practice in some corners of the world, and many people feel that it spices up their love life.  When you get a Brazilian wax, all of the hair underneath your underwear or panties is removed.  This is different from a bikini wax, in which the hair that’s removed is the part that will tend to show when you wear a swim suit.

Some people, in fact, feel that pubic hair is a turn-off.  Women and men both are sometimes pressured by their lovers to go through the pain of a Brazilian wax.  But others would argue that men who do this have been looking at too many pornographic pictures which glorify an unnatural look in women.

Other people feel that they themselves are cleaner and feel sexier when they get a Brazilian wax.

The smooth look has been glorified down through history.  A look at the ancient statues in Italy will reveal that naked women rarely had pubic hair.  In some phases of history, European women wouldn’t be caught with their lovers without having had the equivalent of a Brazilian wax.  Young girls would start plucking hairs as they began growing in.

America, however, doesn’t carry on that ancient tradition; but things are changing.  More and more people are getting in on the hair-free trend.  There are ways to deal with the pain so that it’s not the torture it may seem to be.

So how do you feel about getting a Brazilian wax?  Do you think it adds to sex appeal?  You can’t know for sure whether you like it or not unless you try.

Professionals a Spring 2012 Bride-to-Be Should Visit

Every bride should be her beautiful best for her wedding day as well as her wedding night.  Everyday beauty routines aren’t good enough for a woman’s most special event.  There are several appointments a bride should make either just prior to or on the day she becomes a wife.

A Hair Stylist

If you’re going with an up-do, it’s best to have slightly dirt hair so that the extra oils can keep the hair gripped into place all day and all night.  Schedule a practice hair styling a week or two before the wedding so that if the look achieved isn’t what you were hoping for, you can try either a different style or a different stylist.

Makeup Artist

Like with the hair stylist, try out a makeup artist well before the wedding and find the exact look you want for all the pictures you’ll be in on your wedding day.  Make sure that a primer is used first, to help with staying power.  Makeup for your wedding day needs to look as natural as possible on the one hand but also needs to stay perfect all day.  You need a professional who can layer on the makeup while not leaving you with a caked-on look.

For touch-ups on your wedding day, coordinate with your makeup professional to be sure that you have what you need.

One of the most important makeup tips for a bride is to wear waterproof mascara.  You may not think it will happen, but emotions tend to run high at one’s own wedding and you could end up crying like a baby.

A Manicurist

Your nails can be amazing on your wedding day, with all of the artistic nail designs that are available.  In all of your busyness of getting ready for the big day, don’t forget to schedule a visit with a trusted manicurist.

A Professional Waxer

Get your eyebrows waxed and/or plucked by a professional before your big day.

With your honeymoon in mind, you may also want to schedule a bikini wax, a lip wax, a facial wax, or even a full body wax.

Hopefully you’ll only be a bride once.  Let these professionals help you present your most beautiful self for that dreamy walk down the aisle as well as for your wedding night.

Get A Bikini Wax And Other Ways to Look Your Best in a Swimsuit

A basic strategy to avoid an embarrassing situation when you’re wearing a swimsuit is to get a bikini wax or in some other way remove hair that will tend to show otherwise.  One thing a lot of women are concerned about is how to look as thin as possible in their swimsuit – or at least how not to look fat.  The following are some tips for concealing your extra pounds.

  • When you buy your swimsuit, keep in mind that it’s typical to need to buy a swimsuit in a larger size than your other clothing.  Hide your weight better by buying a swimsuit that’s one to two sizes bigger than the rest of your wardrobe.
  • Unless you’ve already got a great tan or you’re dark-skinned, stay away from a black swimsuit.  You’ll look better in neutral as opposed to very bright colors until your skin darkens.
  • Buy a swimsuit that includes colors and patterns in the places where you want the eyes to go and dark solids in the areas you’d rather hide.
  • Don’t hurry when you’re shopping for a swimsuit.  Take some time and try on ten swimsuits minimum.  Check out how each swimsuit looks in a three-way mirror.  If there isn’t such a mirror, shop elsewhere.  And for added confidence, bring a friend who will give you an honest opinion about how you look in each swimsuit you try on.
  • Buy a swimsuit that’s designed to flatter your body type.   For instance, if you have larger breasts, choose a bikini top with fixed cups, for support.
  • You may feel more confident trying on swimsuits if you self-tan before trying them on.  The more tan you are, the slimmer your arms and legs will appear.

Of course, don’t forget to get a bikini wax before you sport your new swimsuit.

Secrets From the Waxing Salon – Part 1

Are you a regular customer at waxing salons, or is waxing something you’re still working up the courage to do?  Either way, you probably haven’t heard all the secrets that only professional waxers know.  They have a pretty hairy job in more ways than one, as some of their secrets reveal.

What the What??

Men and women who go into a waxing salon for a bikini wax often don’t realize that a Brazilian is more than a bikini wax.  They’ll actually request a Brazilian and then are shocked to learn that all of their hair down there is being removed instead of just the hair around the bikini line.  Realization usually strikes when the waxer begins working on the rear end.

A Bit of an Overreaction?

Most people are well aware that getting waxed is a venture that is not without pain.  There are many people, in fact, who could use hair removal by waxing but they’re too afraid of the procedure.  If you’re afraid, you’re not alone.  Clients have been known to have wax applied to their body and then become so anxious that they won’t even allow the process to continue.  Since the strip isn’t being pulled off, due to panic, it has to be carefully snipped of the body.

Talk About a Yuck Factor!

People are often self-conscious and ask waxers lots of questions to learn whether they’re the biggest coward ever or whether they have the hairiest body parts, etcetera.  But one thing some people should be asking is a question posed to themselves:  Am I clean and ready for a wax?  In other words, not infrequently waxers have to send certain clueless clients to the bathroom with a wet wipe to remove the poop from their bottom.  Ew!  (Don’t let that be you!)

Be sure to look for part two of this series which reveals waxers’ secrets.

For Men: Recommendations for Hair Removal All Over the Body

Bodybuilders spend a great deal of time on their bodies, and they usually go all the way with looking their very best.  This includes removing almost all hair — just about everywhere on the body.  The smooth look goes along with the bodybuilding lifestyle.

(Note:  For men only because the answers are different for women.)  What are the best ways to remove hair from the various parts of a man’s body?

Mustache, Beard, Chin, and Upper Lip

Shaving is by far the best and preferred method to control hair growth on the beard, mustache, upper lip, and chin.

Back of the Neck

Shaving or clipping are best for neck hair removal.

Chest

The best way to remove chest hair is by waxing.  You can also use depilatory creams.  Shaving is an option but comes with problems.  The stubble regrowth causes irritation soon after shaving the chest.  Many men have found that shaving their chest causes severe issues with ingrown hairs.  A cautionary tip:  Once you shave your chest, you can never go back!  You’ll have to deal with chest hair removal perpetually.

Nipples

It’s best to use tweezers to remove the hair around the nipples.  Tweeze with care because if the hair breaks off instead of being pulled out by the roots, you could suffer from ingrown hair as a result.  Note:  This is a sensitive area, and you don’t ever want to wax the nipples.

Back, Shoulders, Stomach, Hands, and Arms

The best approaches for hair removal on the stomach, hands, arms, back, and shoulders are:  waxing, sugaring, and depilatory creams.  The favored method is waxing.

Armpits

The hair under your arms grows in all directions, making it more difficult to effectively wax there.  Shaving is the best way to remove hair from the armpits.  Waxing and sugaring are safe, as well.  Definitely avoid using depilatory creams under your arms because it’s a highly sensitive area.

Pubic Area and Bikini Line

Waxing and sugaring are the preferred methods for removing public hair.  Typically, the hair is snipped with scissors before the waxing or sugaring is done.  These areas can also be shaved.   Always exfoliate a couple of days before hair removal in these areas as well as a couple of days after.

Male Genitals

Hair on the penis and testicles can be removed by very carefully shaving with a sharp, wet razor.

Anus and Perineum

The perineum is the part of the skin below the anus and extending to the base of the testicles.  The perineum has many nerve endings, making it especially sensitive.  The only truly safe options for the anus and perineum are waxing and sugaring.  Shaving ultimately causes irritation.

Legs, Feet, and Toes

For men, waxing or sugaring is preferred for the legs, feet, and toes.  Shaving requires too much upkeep.
